The new Canon PowerShot V10 is Canon’s new way for you to express your story. Not much larger than a deck of cards this camera can record up to 4K60, has built in face detection, image stabilization, micro-SD for storage, built-in kickstand for tabletop recording, and a 2-inch LCD flip screen for just $430. You are going look and sound great
The V10 uses the 1-inch CMOS sensor and up to 20 megapixels like found the PowerShot G cameras. It records in .MP4. It has built in face detection, image stabilization, exposure control and a built-in automatic ND-filter and much more.
Like most cameras, the PowerShot V10 has 14 color filters built in. You can scroll through the filters by using the four-way control pad. Also, it includes a built-in ND Filter that helps darken the video without compromising color.
The 19mm wide angle lens makes for a great vlogging experience. You can record horizonal or vertical. The integrated kickstand does not support vertical recording so you may need a tripod if you what to record on a flat surface.
The V10 will take still photos with limitations. It only has 15-megapixel Auto Photo mode and captures photos in .JPG format only, RAW format isn’t available.
When vlogging, sound is equally as important as video. The V10 has two large microphones to capture your voice and third microphone to help cancel out unwanted background noise. It does have a 3.5mm microphone input if you want to add an external microphone like the RODE Wireless GO II.
Crafty form factor
It is a simple compact design that is easy to operate. Coming in at around 3.5 x 2.5 x 1.4 and under 8 ounces it fits easily in your hand while recording and can be slipped into a pocket. It has a 2-inch 460K dots resolution flip screen.
The V10 uses a combination of physical buttons and touch interfaces. The record button is large and located on the front of the body under the camera lens. On the back of the camera body, you’ll find buttons for power, play, menu, delete, Q/Set, with some of these features located four-way control pad for menu navigation. The touch screen supports menu options as well for quick navigation.
The integrated kickstand makes this camera easy to use for tabletop or flat surface recording. The stand leans forward or backward with 30 degrees of angle for both. This allows it to record your face or down toward something on the surface. If you choose not to use the kickstand, you can use a traditional tripod or HG-100TBR Tripod Grip.
Other important stuff
Canon’s V10 non-removable battery design does limit the runtime when compared to Sony’s ZV-1F. You will get about 50 minutes of 4K30 recording time before you must recharge the internal battery. It takes about 30 minutes to fully charge.
It has an USB-C and micro-HDMI port so you can easily transfer media or connect to a computer to use it as a webcam. The V10 can Bluetooth pair and Wi-Fi connect for live streaming using the free Canon CameraConnect app.
Bottomline
The V10 is a great start for Canon’s first dedicated vlogging camera and an affordable entry level camera targeting social media creators. This is a simple-to-use camera for someone that doesn’t want to dive into the tech of videography and just wants to capture content to share on social media. It offers the user better video and sound quality than a smartphone. It can be used as webcam, for live streaming and still photos. At the price point, this vlogging camera should handle your needs.
